World Plant Milk Day, now in its second year, is back on August 22nd to celebrate the fact that millions of people across the world are choosing healthy, humane and sustainable plant milks over dairy.

Founded by ProVeg UK and Plant Based News in 2017, World Plant Milk Day was established to raise awareness of the vast array of plant milks on the market, highlight their many benefits and to encourage people to make the switch.

It is thought that the plant-based milk industry is set to top $34 billion by 2024, demonstrating the huge global shift away from dairy and towards plant-based milks.

Restaurants and cafes across the country participated by offering special deals and this year it is even bigger, with well-known brands and companies like Kellogg’s, Bella Italia, Handmade Burger Co, Pret a Manger and Starbucks all set to support the day by promoting their dairy-free products.

Smaller outlets are also getting involved by creating special offers, having plant-milk tasting and other fun activities, while vegan and animal NGOs, local groups and individuals are contributing by holding activities, such as plant milk tastings, across the country.

Not only that, but this year will see the UK’s first ever 7-Day Dairy-Free Challenge. It works in a similar way to Veganuary but for this challenge, people sign up to give up cows’ milk, cheese and all other dairy products for one week, and are instead encouraged to try plant-based alternatives.

Last year’s highlights:

#WorldPlantMilkDay trended all day on Twitter
There were more than 1.3 million views of Plant Based News' World Plant Milk Day videos on Facebook
There were almost 2,000 #WorldPlantMilkDay posts on Instagram
In Spain, more than 1,000 people signed up to ProVeg's challenge to go dairy-free for the seven days around World Plant Milk Day
It took off round the globe as more and more people heard about it and wanted to share in the celebration of plant-based milks.
We expect this year to be even more successful, so watch this space and keep an eye out on social media.
