Setting the trends

Keeping ahead of the trend will stand you in good stead for the year ahead, but what can the coffee world expect during 2019? Three experts share their predictions.

There’s no getting away from it, 2019 is here. But what do the next 12 months look like for your business? Maybe you’ve already made a plan for the year ahead, or you have an idea of where you’d like to be this time next year. Pausing to consider how you’d like your business to be operating over the coming year can pay dividends. Peter Dore-Smith, founder of Kaffeine, says it’s not only your customers who must feel welcome – your staff should also feel you really care about them too.

“At Kaffeine we pay attention to the ‘one per cents’ – the smallest details – as without these you can never beat 100%.”

TREND… COMPOSTABLE PACKAGING

James Turton, Operations Director for NaturePac, believes using compostable packaging will help food-to-go businesses stand out from the crowd.

“Operators who switch to compostable packaging now are going to strike a chord with consumers.”

TREND… VEGANISM

Pedro Zúñiga, founder of vegan supplier Coffee & Cheese, says a half-hearted falafel wrap is no longer good enough if you want to offer alternative choices.

“There are so many high-quality vegan alternatives that satisfy taste and texture, plus many of them are allergen-free, so you’re catering to a wider audience.”
